Poppy Photo Shoot–2011/2012 Resort Wear 2

Yipeee!!  Color profile fiasco problem from yesterday has been fixed..and can I just say I HATE it when a program I use almost every day decides to up and change a color profile on me…out of the blue.  Naughty, naughty Adobe Lightroom.  I sent it to it’s room without dinner.  Great…watch it get all cranky on me and really rebel.  Alright, I really do digress…on to the photos.

Today Poppy is showing us her second look for lounging by the pool.  A definite Italian flare here.

Note about today’s post

For some reason….my blog writer program is changing the color profile on all the smaller size photos on todays blog.  Can’t for the life of me figure that one out.  I will be posting the photos on Flickr as well so feel free to check there for the “better” photos.  Weird….if I post the full size original not problem….if I post a smaller version, they turn out all muddy.  Guess who will be debugging tonight Winking smile

Poppy Photo Shoot–2011/2012 Resort Wear 1

As many of my fellow collector enthusiasts and photographers know, building  miniature sets for photo shoots is not the easiest thing to do.  It can be incredibly frustrating if the picture in your head does not match the diorama that is unfolding in front of you( not to mention everything falls over with the  slightest movement…I wish I could tell you how many times I had to reset the Re-ment pieces on the table….lost count after 5).  There have been countless times where I had to scrap an idea and come up with something completely different because it just would not come together.  Then…other times it just comes together so easily…a piece here, a piece there..oh I think I have this and it would look great there…kind of thing.  I love it when everything just kind of comes together.   Also, and I don’t know if anyone else does this but, when I set up a diorama for a photo shoot there is a story in my head as I build the scene.  The more elaborate the diorama, the more elaborate the story in my head.

Typically, as day after day runs the seemingly unending gauntlet of rain, rain and more rain during January in the Pacific Northwest, my mind will stray towards sunnier places and luxurious vacation spots.  That was definitely the thought process behind this set and the next couple of sets of photos.  The story in my head had Poppy vacationing in the beautiful south of France.  She is on a patio of some palatial villa overlooking the stunning unique blue of the Mediterranean Sea.  There is a pool just off camera and Poppy is relaxing in the sun just before breakfast.  Oh the life!  And that is one of the beauties behind the photos for me and one of the reasons I enjoy photographing these miniature diva’s so much.  I will most likely never vacation in a palatial villa in the south of France….but Miss Poppy can….and that is better than nothing. Winking smile

Okay guys….no more musings from “How Rebecca beats the winter time blah’s”  On to the photos……….

Twilight …The Wedding dolls

Okay…so you knew it was coming right?  With the success of the previous Twilight dolls you knew that Mattel was not going to let this cash cow go without coming out with the wedding set right?  Well, if you have been anticipating this set, your  waiting is almost over.  Rumor on the street is that Bella and Edward in their wedding finery are indeed being produced and someone has sneaked some photos.  Keep in mind that Mattel has not officially given it’s blessing on these dolls but here is what is RUMORED to be going on.

When:  One source lists February as release date but again….RUMOR

Price:  Rumored to be $29.95 for each…not a set people….each.

There are some indications that another Jacob is coming out too….time will tell.

Will definitely be getting these guys for the clothing alone.  Love Edwards tux but the doll…MEH.  Bella is beautiful if she comes out looking like the prototype here.   The Carolina Herrera designed gown for the movie was so simple and successfully crossed into the uber chic and elegant category..IMO.  I hope the actual gown looks as good as the promo shots.  Already thinking of plans for a photoshoot……..

The Kardashian sisters as Barbies? Say it ain’t so!

Okay….let’s preface this by saying there has been NO OFFICIAL WORD from Mattel on whether or not this is true.  This could indeed just be some sort of PR test balloon Mattel is sending up to see what kind of market is out there for this.  Just the thought of it though is enough to get my undies in a bunch (and believe me folks….that just doesn’t happen every day! LOL!).  Normally I put myself in the very liberal category when it comes to doll design.  I mean when Toki Doki Barbie came out, I was just fine with the pink hair, tattoos and the leopard leggings.  It was a fashion statement and, in my opinion, did not constitute a negative reflection on the image of Barbie as a whole.  This, however, is different.

If this rumor is true and Mattel has partnered with this reality TV family of questionable morals (hey folks…I’m not making a judgment…it’s all out there for you to see every week if you are so inclined…I’m not), I think it will definitely put a serious dent in Barbie’s image.  I realize that the wording out there says that these dolls will be imaged as “Barbie’s friends” and not Barbie herself.  I even have a problem with that because frankly…these are girls I would not want my daughter hanging with. I don’t want my Barbie hanging with them either.  It’s such a puzzle to me because I can think of a many, many other  more suitable options for “Barbie’s friends’ than these profanity-slinging, sex-tape-starring, marrying-a-guy-as-a-publicity-stunt-then-divorcing-him-a-month-later kind of people. Is this really where doll design at Mattel is going for inspiration? The dank and sordid halls of reality TV? Just the thought makes me want to wash my hands….EWWWWWW!  It leaves me with the question….will we also be seeing Lindsay Lohan rehab #4 Barbie or a Charlie Sheen “I am a god” Ken?  Sorry Mattel…you have me scratching my head on this one.  Please tell us all that it is not true.

….and now back to our regularly scheduled content….Rebecca Rant is over….for now.

Ehhh hmmmm!!  Well Miss Poppy…what’s with the honkin’ rock you are wearing on that all important digit??!!  Word is that Poppy’s boyfriend Chip will be making his debut in 2012.  Perhaps it’s a bit more than “boyfriend”???  Will have to see about that.

Preferably Pink for early Bogue’s Vogues Vendredi

Preferably pink refers to the doll in this photo but it really could be the gown as well.  This was perhaps my favorite Bogue’s Vogues purchase of the year though choosing a favorite Bogue’s Vogue is like choosing my favorite child between my two kids….impossible.  This delicious pink cotton pique number with rolled black velvet collar is paired with a black velvet hat with netting bow.  TO DIE FOR!  Once again Mr Bogue…that hat is off to you.  Ms. Preferably Pink has had her hair restyled at the salon de Berry.

Black Diamonds Anyone?

One of the highlights of going to doll conventions for me is the opportunity to see, photograph and sometimes purchase  a One of A Kind doll ( okay so that’s my favorite part LOL!).  I feel extremely blessed to have some truly amazing OOAK works of art in my collection and they mean even more because I have come to know the artists behind the work.  One of my all time favorite OOAK artists is Matt Sutton.  This past summer at the Ft. Lauderdale Barbie Convention, I was able to add this beauty to my collection and have finally put her in front of the camera.  It is always a joy to photograph something sooooo beautiful.

The first 2012 Silkstones are announced!

The people attending the BFC ( Barbie Fan Club ) event at this summers Barbie Convention in Ft. Lauderdale Florida were shown a preview of one of the 2012 Silkstones .  The Silkstone designs, according to their designer Robert Best, are going back to the classic lines of the 1950’s.  The line for 2012 is being called “Atelier” which defined means artist studio.  I am looking forward to a return to the classics and the photos from these first two offerings have me very excited to see what the rest 2012 will hold for this fabulous line of dolls from Mattel.

Sweet Confection has arrived!

After waiting approximately 4 months, the much anticipated WClub exclusive “Sweet Confection” Poppy Parker has arrived.  ** promo photo is property of Integrity Toys, Inc.**

PP028_full3_web

Her skin tone is a bit darker than the promo pictures would indicate but the face is beautiful.  The mod clothing is not something I really collect or a design aesthetic that I prescribe to so the second she arrived…it was time for a redress.  All in all, I would have to say I really like her.  The really tan skin tone is something I think I am going to have to get used to.  Time will tell if she stays or not…but I do love the rooted eyelashes on this lovely lady and the absolutely scrumptious platinum blond tresses set against that very tan skintone.  Very, very pretty.

Come home to Mama…..

When I attended the Fashion Royalty convention in October this year, they previewed a doll that was going to be available later in the year by lottery to interested WClub members.  It was a beautiful blonde doll with the old Veronique facemold on a FR2 body wearing an amazing purple gown with accessories and a fabulous updo.  The lottery was held Monday the 19th and I am happy to report that I won the right to purchase one of these beauties.  I hate lotteries because I never seem to win any and I am glad that everyone who entered the lottery seemed to have won the right to purchase.  I am hoping she will be shipping soon!!

The Inner Sanctum….of the doll room

First of all, let me thank my friend Jenn for her comment on Flickr that prompted the idea for the title. Yesterday I shared photos of the landing area right outside the actual doll room.  I have never really decorated this area for the holidays before so it was fun to show off some of the displays and ideas I have done this year.  Today, I will share photos of the actual doll room.  I normally have a table in the middle of the room ( it comes out from the wall which is also a wall bed) but for the tea party I needed to allow for as much space in there as I could get so people could see the collection and displays.

The doll room displays have changed from previous years.  If you want to see displays from previous years check out my youtube video here….

Slideshow of the doll room

Perhaps the biggest change in the doll room for this holiday season is that the vintage reproduction section was put into storage and the Silkstones took up residence in the corner area.  My “ Belles Choses” boutique moved to the spacious venue bellow the display area and more silkies were moved there to shop.  Shopgirls office( at the top of the stairs) had to downsize and Fashion Designer Silkstone ( always Edith Head in my mind as I believe that is who Mr. Best designed her after) got her own space and it looks like she has designed a red gown for the young starlett looking in the mirror.  I did manage to maintain one vintage reproduction shelf as an homage to the fabulous Barbie conventions I have been to.

Christmas comes to the doll room

I love the holidays.  I start decorating in November and am usually done by the first week of December to be ready for my Ladies Holiday Tea.  This year, my ladies tea was followed immediately by weeks of dress rehearsals for my daughters Nutcracker ballet performances.  So…I have been a little swamped.  Now that my little ballerina has hung up her dancing shoes for the holiday, I can finally get back to the studio and some fun doll time.  The doll room has gone through some changes in the past couple of months and I thought I would take the opportunity to share these fun changes.  First off, the landing outside the doll room gets a holiday makeover….

I found these fun acrylic boxes at Micheal’s craft store and I have been wanting to use them for displaying.  Like many collectors, I am always looking for new and different ways to display my collection.  I new I was going to be putting this new tree up to display all the Barbie ornaments I have collected over the years and these boxes were the perfect “presents” to put under the tree.

Again I am always looking for ways to display my collection and I love when people show photos of what they do.  Here are some of the things I have done in this upstairs landing area.

I will continue tomorrow with photos of the doll room itself.

Oh….and one little proud Mamma moment….my daughter as a flower in this years Nutcracker ballet

It’s a Rocker Wedding!!!

I know, I know….you thought I had been hit by a bus or something since it has been so long since my last post.  No bus…just holiday decorating.  The Ladies Holiday Tea is this weekend so I hope to have some more time and a chance to take some photos next week.  I hope to get on a more regular blog posting schedule.  Hope being the operative word LOL!  To tide us all over, Integrity Toys just released information on the last W Club exclusive doll for 2011 and what a packet of info that was!  We are getting the opportunity to purchase not one, not two, but three different dolls and it’s a wedding theme.  Yipeeeee!!!  Now, normally my taste in collecting goes for the more classic lines but I have to admit, my hands could not hit the “BUY” button fast enough when I saw the snaps for this mini collection.  The W Club board has been buzzing for the past few days about this amazing set and here is a little taste why.

Many W Club members are hoping beyond hope that the actual production dolls hair will come out looking like this( Jim Morrison hair and all).  Please, please, please with a big red cherry on top.  I did not like the look of the first Romain very much as his face reminded me immediately of a bull terrier….don’t know why….just did.  Now this guy….. HOT!  No terrier vibe coming through at all.  Also, the versatility of this set is amazing.  Lilith’s dress can be worn so many different ways…so inventive and fabulous.

Holiday Inspiration

It’s that time of year again and I don’t know about you guys but sometimes I have a hard time getting inspired and enthused to decorate for the holidays.  This year was no exception so I knew It was time to hit my inspiration spot and ramp up on the excitement for the holidays.  I thought I would share a few photos of one of my favorite places on earth and a place of magic for me during the holidays.  It’s called Molbak’s and I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed going there and taking them.

Rayna–Jet Set Diva

Yes…I know…her bump gives her a lightly cone head appearance.  I like it though.  Normally I don’t go for the “Snooky” bump in hairstyles but sometimes it works.  I can’t say that “the bump” will stay because I have seen some stellar hair restyles of this lady ( take a look a Shuga Shug’s blog in my blogroll for pics ) and I may have to “de-bump” in the future.  For now, it stays and I think she has such a haughty high fashion look as is.  I love that aloof look.  It’s as if she is saying “I will allow you to take my picture now”.   I must say, I did not care for the original clothing she came in.  I go for more of the classic clothing but I have to say the original outfit’s colors were fun and it was well made.  I like her original boots…just not on her LOL!  Anywhoo…it was commented recently that it would be nice to see the before pictures and then the restyle…excellent notion.  Here is Ms. Rayna as she came originally.

Bogue’s Vogues Vendredi meets Alyrenee

Well it’s  11/11/11 and it’s long past time for another Bogue’s Vogues Vendredi but this time we have added a twist.   I had the pleasure of stumbling upon a lovely lady selling 1/6 hats at the Fashion Royalty Convention this year.  You know me and hats so of course I had to stop and take a look at what she had to offer.  I walked away with three fantastic hats and the itching need to get them back to the studio and photograph them because they are that amazing.  Her name is Alyrenee and her fabulous and entertaining blog is  http://alyrenee.blogspot.com/   I decided to pair this fantastic hat with a gorgeous classically styled black 3/4 sleeve silk day dress with rolled velvet collar by James Bogue.   Here is the result….

The Holidays are Coming to the Studio….

I have always loved the holidays.  Ever since I was little, this time of year never fails to fill me with excitement and joy.  When my kids were younger, it was just mostly me and my husband doing the massive holiday decorating and while it was a huge task, I loved every moment.  Now, my kids are older, and we all participate in “dressing up the house” for the holidays.  I love that both my kids get excited when they see furniture being rearranged and spaces being made for the Christmas trees.  My daughter was jumping up and down after ballet class ( her classes are all bar work right now so she is not real excited after class) yesterday as she knew we would be putting up the Christmas trees that evening.  It makes me feel blessed that I could help to pass on the joy and excitement of the season to my kids.

The next three weeks will be filled with decorating for the holidays at Casa Berry.  This activity culminates in a holiday tea that my friends and I hold for a group of about 60 ladies.  A big part of the tea is a tour of the doll room and all the lovely stories and conversations that this room inspires.  Most every person has a Barbie story or experience to share.  There are usually fashion things to discuss as well and the “ If I were going out, I would wear that.” conversations.  I will be sharing photos of the doll room as it gets dressed up for the holidays and will share a few photos of the holiday tea as well.  For now, I will share the first few photos of holiday inspired themes.

It took me a bit of time to warm up to this Fashion Royalty Convention collection gift set.  My tastes in collecting do not run towards the mod era so the clothing for many of the convention collection offerings were not what I prefer.  I decided to play around with this gift set and see what I could do as far as redressing and restyling.  I just love it when I find a diamond in the rough with a doll.  That is what this Poppy and Darla are for me.  I restyled the bangs and dressed Ms. Poppy in a  favorite Bogue’s Vogues and now I LOVE her.   Ms. Darla took a trip to Boutique de Bogue as well and I am really appreciating the new face sculpt on her.
