Ooh La La Indeed!!

The WClub Poppy Parker Exclusive arrived just after I returned from Barbiecon a few weeks ago.  As with most conventions, I have spent the last couple of weeks going through my acquired treasures and getting over “The convention cold”.  When you put around 1,000 people together in a ballroom for multiple events, and these same people get on average 4-5 hours of sleep a night…there is bound to be illness.  So… now I am on the mend, I managed to snap some images of this new Poppy Parker and get them ready for the blog.

You have to love these giftsets and check out the dual stand!!  I have not seen that before.    I am completely digging the case with this one too.  Very chic and elegant.  I adore the sleek platinum blond ponytails and red, red lips.  I am also a big fan of the cream skin tone and it looks like Agnes has it for this set.  Hope to see these girls sometime before the end of the year.  Integrity Toys thanked Jason and Vaughn for this offering in their release email .  This collector thanks them too!

And…because we have sisters for the giftset…just had to add this, sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Get ready folks…Poppy Parker “right to buy” lotteries will be right around the corner!

2016 NBDCC–Final Thoughts and Thanks

What does the trip home from Barbiecon look like?

©2016 Inside The Fashion Doll Studio

I kid you not.  This was on my luggage when I picked it up from baggage claim.  LOL!  That about says it all people.  I flew into the wrong airport, I drove to Jacksonville, I laughed, I cried, I presented,  I shopped, I laughed some more then with a heart full of good memories I said goodbye to my Barbie buddies and headed home.  On the plane ride home I found myself looking forward to next year already.  A big hug and Thank you! to the fabulous table #4 and a most excellent hostess Susan.

©2016 Inside The Fashion Doll Studio

I want to thank my dear friend and fellow blogger Rogier Corbeau of Dutch Barbie World for taking over the blogging duties on ITFDS.  He did a most fantastic job keeping both blogs up to date and getting all the images and information out to all of you.  Words alone cannot express my gratitude for his kindness and generosity in doing this.  I have to also give a big “Thank You!!” to Mario and Gianni of Magia2000.  They generously allowed me to photograph behind the scenes before the event which then allowed me to share images of all of their collection in a way I never would have been able to do fighting the crowds during their show.  Grazie!  I also received an extra bonus in that I got to hear some of what went into designing this collection.  I was amazed before but now, having heard about all that goes into these exquisite creations, I am in awe.  What an honor to photograph those beauties.

This year, since I had opportunities that came up during the convention, I was prompted  to take some of my professional camera gear.  It was a lot to lug around but boy am I glad I did.  I was very happy with the images I was able to get this convention.  Looks like extra camera gear will be coming with me now for doll conventions.

I was honored to be asked to do a presentation on photography and blogging this year and since some people were not able to make it, I will be doing most of the presentation in pieces on the blog.  The first installment will be this Friday and will follow for subsequent Friday’s through August and into September.   If you missed it or were unable to attend, no worries.  It will all be here.

Salesroom

So this will be my last guest blog for now. I want to thank Rebecca for sending me all her great pictures. And it was an honor to take over your blog this week. As a last topic we have salesroom pictures. The salesroom at the National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention is probably the largest barbie salesroom in the world.

20160729-IMGL4201.jpg

It’s Barbie heaven.

Also the lovely ladies from Lantis Kelly were selling here their ooak creations.

And Ninimomo had some amazing ooak creations for sale.

Dear friend have a good flight home and I can’t wait to see pictures of your new dolls here on your blog.

Sneaks at Convention

So what were the sneaks at convention.

In the sales room there were 2 new dolls on display. The first one is Madam La Vinia from the Harlem Theater Collection.

13782225_10208913786294887_133241780329466649_n.jpg

The doll has the new articulated Collector curvy body.

The other new doll on display in the salesroom was the new Silkstone Glam Gown.

She is the BFMC Exclusive from this year. On Instagram Designer Robert Best posted a sketch of this lady.

And the final sneak was given during the Mattel presentation. She is the new 50th Anniversary Francie.

Schermafbeelding 2016-07-31 om 12.48.26

Barbie™ Fan Club members have the opportunity to get her beginning 8/3/16 at 9am PT* for $50. No more than 4,000 of these dolls will be available for sale.

information about this doll from TheBarbieCollection.com:

This timeless teenager first captured America’s hearts in 1966 with a youthful, kicky style that embodied the hip looks of London’s Carnaby Street and the booming mod movement in the States. “She was where pop culture was heading,” designer Bill Greening says, “as reflected in the teenage fashion trends of the mid to late ’60s.”

Fifty years later, Francie® doll continues to delight collectors and win new fans because, as Greening explains, “She has a personality all her own and a style that can be sweet and girly or mod and wild.”

To mark her golden anniversary, Greening and his team have recreated Francie Fairchild’s crowning achievement from 1967 as Miss Teenage Beauty, a look that’s highly coveted by collectors. “It’s so hard to find a vintage sample, mint and complete,” Greening says. “The fashion feels very celebratory and appropriate to commemorate Francie’s 50th.”

Francie® doll is poised to take the pageant prize in her pink ruffled A-line skirt paired with a sleeveless lace top adorned with floral appliqués. She earns extra applause for her marvey accessories, including elbow-length gloves, pale-blue pumps, red beauty sash, and loving cup. Plus, she tops off her winning look with a tiara and signature flip hairdo — the perfect complement to the sweet expression on her face.

Please to be part of this anniversary tribute, Greening points out other distinctive features of the faithful reproduction. “This is the first time we’ve reproduced what collectors call the ‘straight leg’ Francie doll, which debuted in 1966 along with the bendable leg version. She looks really cute both in the box or removed, and her doll stand even has the vintage Francie logo.”

Great for play or display, 50th Anniversary Francie® Doll is a neato way to honor this treasured teen’s lasting appeal, and you’ll dig adding her to your collection — with just a click at our online shop beginning Wednesday, 8/3/16 at 9am PT!

Enjoy a blast from the past and watch these two vintage Francie commercials from our archives!

She was raffled under the conventioneers that attended the presentation. So one lucky collector went home with this beauty.

The Raffle Room

So Convention is over but I still have some things that I have to share. One of these things is the Raffle room.

20160729-IMGL4190

And wow they had some great items this year. I would have had a hard time deside where to put my tickets in.

Here some pictures of the amazing items that you could win.

Convention Doll 2016

So here they are the official convention dolls from the Nation Barbie Doll Collectors Convention 2016.

The dolls were inspired by Jacky kennedy and the movie Valley of the Dolls.

The edition size of these dolls is a 1000 together.

The surprise donation for the silence auction from Robert Best turned out to be the original sketches of this years dolls. Are the lucky winner is getting them signed.

Congrataiolations Sebastiano !!!

Fashion Show

One of my favorite parts of convention is the fashion show. And they had a really good one this year in Jacksonville. The people in the fashion show always have so much fun and the conventioneers love it.

This years it was the first time that Mattel designer Carlyle Nuera saw one of his designs one stage. And as you can see he is loving it.

20160729-IMGL4387.jpg

20160729-IMGL4390

An other favorite of my was Alexis and Krystal (Mario and Sebastiano) from Dynasty. And of course they had one of their Iconic fights on stage.

Groovy Gallery Opening Reception

On Wednesday evening they had the first official convention event. It was the Groovy Gallery Opening reception where they had the silence auction.

And wow, there were so many great items this year in that auction.

During the event there was an artist live painting a barbie portrait.

And I’m very curious about the donation by Robert Best.

20160727-IMGL4060

It was a card that said you have to bring it after next Saturday’s Dinner….

What could it be… a doll, sketch…. We will find out soon 😉

Here some pictures of the item in the silence auction.

During this event the live auction dolls were also on display.

I love this doll from my fellow blogger Tommy Courtney.

20160727-IMGL4033

Her name is The Pink Queen.

And look at this lady made by Matt Sutton

20160726-IMGL3980

Isn’t she just perfection !!!

And then the creation of Magia2000.

20160727-IMGL4029

Her name is Silver Film Noir. and she is a dedication to the National Barbie Convention doll that the guys created 10 years ago.

I’m sure these dolls will raise some good $$$ for charity.

Magia2000 The Royal Collection

The grand finale of the evening was the ooak show from Magia2000.

20160726-IMGL3671.jpg

This year’s theme was the Royal collection. And wow Royal it certainly was. They were all there. Marie Antoinette, Japanese Empresses, The Pope, Amazones, Disco Queens, Grace Kelly and even a knight.

And the beading !!!! I never saw a collection of the guys with so many details.

20160726-IMGL3759

Now this is true Haute Couture.

I love it how the guys give their presentation.

20160726-IMGL3977

While Mario introduce the dolls and tells about the collection Gianni and their friend Ibrahim show the dolls around on the runway, just like a real fashion show.

I wish I was there to see this Iconic collection with my own eyes.

Bravo !!! Mario and Gianni.

Rebecca made amazing pictures of this collection where you can see all the amazing details. Enjoy !!!

Artist Creations

The next show of the evening was the show of Artist Creations.

This morning Rebecca send me an amazing amount of convention pictures from the last 2 days. So lets’s start with the Tuesday. This day was all about ooak parties. The evening started with the Rob’s Dolls and Friends Salesroom.

Silence Auction preview

Tomorrow its time for the Groovy Gallery Opening welcome reception with the silence auction. This year I worked on a piece for this auction with some great friends. Mario and Gianni from Magia2000 asked me to make a set for their silence auction donation. They guys came with the idea to make an Andy Warhol doll with his muse Barbie. And Andy needed a studio.

andy_posing_in_factory

So after some brainstorming we decided that I would recreate a piece of the famous factory studio. So a silver brick wall and a concrete floor was my starting point. When the dolls and set were ready we had the idea that it would be cool to have this donation shoot by a good photographer. So we were very happy that our dear friend Rebecca Berry from Inside The Fashion Doll Studio was willing to help us out. The dolls and set were put on express to the US were they arrived just in time. Rebecca did an amazing job the days before she was leaving for convention herself.

So here it is our donation for the silence auction.

20160717IMG_1163-Edit (1)

Look at that face. Now that is the face of a MUSE.

20160717-IMG_1126edit (1)

And I love the Marylin patterned fabric the guys used for her spectacular gown.

20160717IMG_1145-Edit (1)

The set has many mini’s that you can play with like sketches, polaroids, Interview magazines and many of Andy’s famous pieces of art.

20160717IMG_1140-Edit (1)

And look at the bling on her shoes.

20160717IMG_1131-Edit (1)

And don’t forget Andy.

20160717IMG_1129-Edit-3 (1)

I love this famous portrait from him that Rebecca recreated.

I hope this piece will raise some good money for charity.

Mario, Gianni and Rebecca it was an honor to work with you guys !!!

Matt Sutton

An other artist that opened his door yesterday was Matt Sutton. Rebecca send me so many gorgeous pictures from his creations. I just don’t know were to start.

Here a few of my favorites (when I’m typing this I know I probably post them all because they are all favorites)

20160725-IMGL3566

I love this girl. She remind me of Evie from the BBC serie The House of Eliots.

20160725-IMGL3552

And this pink with black lace gown is just to die for.

20160725-IMGL3637

And what do you think of her. A raven in a black and white polkadot gown, can it get any better then this.

2016 is an amazing year for the Matt Sutton fans.

And after the show its tradition that the Matt Sutton fans come together in hotel bar to enjoy each other dolls while drinking cocktails to celebrate.

What a perfect way to end the day.

Julia Originals

One of the ooak artists that is selling her creations from out of her room at the National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention is Julia Originals. And wow she brought a spectacular collection with her.

I love the vintage signature style and how she use colors.

National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention 2016

Hi guys, here is Rogier from DutchBarbieWorld. As some of you already know during convention my dear friend Rebecca and I take over each other fashion doll blogs. And this time it’s my turn because Rebecca is at the National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention !!!

This year the convention is held in Jacksonville Florida and the theme is Pop Art.

Later today I will blog about a few of the Ooak artist doll shows.

Procrastination and … a Poppy Parker

So, I may not be the queen of procrastination but I believe I would be voted onto the court of princesses of procrastination.  I kind of like the sound of that…”Princess of Procrastination”.  Anywhoo, I am supposed to be finishing up my presentation for this years NBDCC.  I am supposed to be putting the finishing touches on it, wrapping it up and putting it to bed so I can start getting packed for the flight I am taking in a little over 36 hours from now.  Am I doing any of that?  Noooooooo.  Instead, today I received a couple new Poppy Parker’s and I am playing instead.  Guess this means I am finishing up the presentation on the airplane.

Winking smile

Love the lavender eyes!!  Everything about this set that was promised…was delivered.  She is adorable and the little poodle is to die for.  Well done David!!  I will have to come up with a suitable Paris themed set when I get back from convention.

Now…back to the presentation.  If you are attending the NBDCC and are interested in learning more about the photography that I do here on the blog, I will be presenting on Thursday, July 28th at 5 pm in one of the Riverfront rooms at the Hyatt Jacksonville.  The time had to be changed from original schedule due to scheduling conflicts.

Elyse Likes A Party

Or at least she likes a party in Paris…but then who wouldn’t.  I received this beautiful J’adore la Fête Elyse right before leaving for vacation and while I don’t advocate working while you go on vacation, I do have to say that my office view has improved with travel…this is what I am looking at while I write this post.

Now on to the doll photos.  I borrowed netted fascinator from Blue Flame Vanessa.©2016 Inside The Fashion Doll Studio

She is a beauty!  I love the dark locks and flame red lips on her.  The jewelry is really stepped up and the presentation of this giftset in the red suitcase appeals to this collector in a big way.  It’s just plain classy.  I can’t wait to photograph this Elyse in the suit.

Agnes at the Palazzo

For those of you following my Instagram, you have seen a little taste of this shoot.  If you don’t follow, here is a little backstory.  It all started with this amazing dress which I found on Etsy by the talented duo AquatalisBoutique .  You may have seen some of their work over on Rogier’s Blog this week.  It took a while for this gown to get to me because the first one was lost in the vast quagmire of  postal services between Vietnam and my home.  Aquatalis was great about it and after we waited a reasonable time without the dress showing up, they promptly made and mailed another one.  Excellent customer service and kept me informed the whole time.  When I saw this gown I immediately thought of Dolce & Gabbana and their 2012 and 2013 collections.  Such vibrant color and opulence. I needed an appropriate backdrop.  Nothing I had was doing it for me.  So….time for a new one and I went to the Dutch still life masters to find inspiration.  I had seen a wall covering recently that I was obsessed with and wanted to do something similar…this set was what came from all that brainstorming.

Collectors Welcome “The Industry”

At last years IT convention, David Buttry revealed a new product line of dolls called “The Industry”.  This product line is 1/6 Tullabelle.  I am so excited about this line because I have always loved Tullabelle but don’t collect the the larger scale dolls.  Now I can get that look in the scale that I do collect.  Integrity Toys explained that this line will be  “a lighthearted street-influenced collection with a mix of vintage and new. “  It was also stated that this Tullabelle will have friends later on this year too so we will be seeing more.  Can’t wait!

This 12 inch Tullabelle is “the debut of a brand new, ultra-versatile body sculpt”.  She is 12 1/4 inches tall and smaller busted like Nu.Face.  IT has stated that there are new removable bottom leg portions on this doll that will enable collectors to change them out so the models can wear flat shoes as opposed to heels.  Nice!  It was also mentioned that this lady may..in fact…be able to wear Barbie shoes as well.  Love it!  She is available for preorder through Integrity Toys dealers.

The boots!!!  The boots!!!  I also love the ash blond hair.  While most of my collection is vintage couture based, I am looking forward to exploring this product line and am purchasing this doll.  I also think it’s fun that David Buttry gets to expand his design repertoire with this product line.  I adore his Poppy Parker designs and I am sure I will enjoy this new collection as well.  I also really like the fact that Integrity Toys is listening to their customers and continues to give more flexibility and options for the redressing collector community.

And I wish I was going with her!  When David Buttry announced this theme for Poppy Parker last year at convention, I thought I would faint of pure happiness.  Just the thought of this theme and I was dreaming of all kinds of fabulous Poppy Parker Parisian style.  What David Buttry and Integrity Toys gave collectors yesterday were those dreams realized and a confection in pink that has this collector claiming she has seen nirvana…and her name is “Miss Amour”.  You will see what I mean.   The following dolls will be available at Integrity Toys Dealers.  If you are at all interested, you should contact IT dealers NOW.  WClub members had 24 hours ahead of you to order.  Some of these babies are already sold out.

Well Bonjour!  The train case alone had me saying “ Oh yes please”.  Added to it, the adorable houndstooth coat and gloved hands made me happy too.  David Buttry explained to WClub members that there is a range of different facial screenings in this collection so you will see older makeup and newer facial screenings all within this offering.

What’s the first thing a girl is going to do in Paris?  SHOP!  And you won’t just throw on a pair of jeans to go shopping in Paris…you need to do it in style.  This black, yellow and white suit with hat and gloves ensures that Miss Poppy will indeed be shopping in style.  The little bag ( reminiscent of an Hérmes Kelly bag) adds that fabulous finishing touch.  I love the french twist hairstyle on her too.  I am also noticing that there will be plenty of mix and match opportunities within this collection and the doll offered up as the Poppy Parker club doll.  Thank you for that David!

Translated..”This is so good”.  Indeed she is!  Poppy is ready for a night on the town in this adorable little polka dot confection.  I already have her pictured at a little table at Laduree for a future photo shoot.  If I am already thinking about the photos I am going to take of a doll…she is already in my shopping cart…no question.

They had to throw in the poodle!  Game over…I’m buyin’.  Other irresistible items with this gorgeous Poppy are her  lilac/pink gloved hands and that straw purse!!  Adorable!  The poodle’s name is Phoebe.

The color palette of this collection definitely points to the fact that Poppy is traveling to Paris in the springtime.  David Buttry confirmed this in a webcast about the collection.  I adore this lavender on the strawberry blonde tresses of this Poppy.  I also love the new updated facial screening on this one.  It looks like we are getting some new and more sophisticated jewelry for Miss Poppy.  NICE!  I also love that the “Paris in Springtime” outfit will go nicely with the facial screening of this doll and vica versa.

This collection is an out of the park home run in my opinion.  This is exactly what I enjoy collecting.  I was happy with the base collection but the upcoming lottery offerings are what have me and many other Poppy Parker collectors salivating.

Oh my word!!  She comes with a teddy bear and diary….too cute!!  Why oh why does she have to be a lottery doll?!!!  Here is hoping that the lottery Gods are kind to me.  Looks like the lottery tickets will be sold sometime in late summer.  The verbiage says IT direct so not just WClub offering on this one.  That makes the low 700 edition size even more alarming.  Many more fish in the pond to vie for the right to purchase this beauty.  Good luck to all!

And…finally…the pièce de résistance so to speak of this collection in my opinion….

If David Buttry came up to me and said “Hey Rebecca…if I could design the perfect Poppy for you, what would she look like?”,  my response would be this doll.  1) She is pink 2) She has pink jewelry 3) she has an updo 4) She has soft facial screening 4) She is wearing a high couture ball gown ( I feel Dior here) and 5) She comes with an adorable mini perfume bottle.  I am just going to say it right now…if I don’t get the chance to purchase this one…there will be a sulk fest like no other before it then an immediate grouping of funds to purchase this baby on the secondary market.  This one is a must have for me.  It looks like this is another IT direct so not just WClub members going after this one.  Good Luck to everyone and I may see you in the mud pit of secondary market purchasing after on this one.  I need to go work out now.

Next blog post up in 30 minutes talking about the debut doll from The Industry doll collection.
