While these are intriguing, I believe I will sit this lottery out. My favorite is Dark Side.
I love Spring. In the Pacific Northwest, it means the birds start singing and the constant grey rain gives way to a few sunny days here and there. I have always thought of Spring as a beginning…and I am so ready for some new and wonderful beginnings.
My camellias are starting to bloom…
and so are my crocus.
Lilacs are starting to bud.
Forsythia is holding court in the garden. The first sentinel of Spring.
My dear friend Hilda of Bellissima Couture gifted this exquisite gown for me over a year ago and I wanted to share it. Not only is it exquisite in every way, it also incorporates some lovely lace found on our trip to Paris. It is simply too lovely for words. A treasure in my collection..and heart.
From left to right is Boucle Beauty, Blush Beauty, Fabulously Floral, Lavender Luxe and Little Red Dress.
Boucle Beauty:
The hair is quite a departure from the original photos released of her. I wonder what the actual production doll will look like. Time will tell but I am guessing it will be more like this than the previously released photos.
Lavender Luxe:
Be still my heart and open up my wallet!!! { moment of silence as I send silent meditative thanks and praise to Robert Best for this little piece of heaven}. The scene from the old Mervin’s commercial comes to mind where the woman is glued to the store door chanting “Open, Open, Open”.
Yes…me likey and me buying.
Blush Beauty:
Perfection!
Little Red Dress:
May need multiples of this one for redressing
It looks like the BFMC team is really feeling the Dior vibe both with clothing and set design. Too cool.
…and a few Oscar night revelations. Revelation number 1: Holy cow…Lady Gaga can sing! She belted out a number of our beloved Sound of Music tunes with heart, soul and one heck of a voice. She even brought Julie Andrews to tears…not a dry in the house after that one. Revelation number 2: God love Patricia Arquette. Equal pay for equal work no matter the gender. Sing it sister!!! Now…on to the fashion report.
There were a great deal of recent couture and RTW runway looks showing up at last nights Oscars. It would appear that Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab had the biggest presence on the red carpet last night and for the most part…it was a really good night for all the designers. Here is Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab
On the runway at Elie Saab’s 2014 Fall Couture show. Yes, cleavage can totally make or break a dress. In Ms. Lopez’s case, I believe it makes it. I thought she looked stunning.
Next up Chrissy Teigen rocked it in Zuhair Murad.
And on the recent 2015 Spring Couture runway
The couture house of Zuhair Murad scored a second well dressed starlet last night with Jenna Dewan Tatum
…and again from Murad’s 2015 Spring Couture show
Well done designers!!! Another notable house of fashion last night was Yves Saint Laurent. I liked both looks they had on the red carpet. First up was the lovely and apparently unharmed from her recent flogging( no I have not seen the movie and I must be the only woman under 50 on the planet who hasn’t)….Dakota Johnson.
Margot Robbie wore the other Saint Laurent look magnificently. This black tour de force was stunning with her blond tresses. Kudos to the stylist who picked out this necklace…apparently a vintage piece from the former collection of no less than the late Duchess of Windsor , Wallace Simpson. It was the best accessory of the evening..bar none.
Kuddos to J. Mendel who graced the body of Faith Hill. Excuse me but…does this woman EVER age?! She looked amazing.
…from J. Mendel’s 2015 Fall RTW show.
The house of Givenchy. There were two looks from this design house. First up was the stunning Rosamind Pike in a custom gown. Easily her best awards season look. I loved it on her.
Jessica Chastain also wore Givenchy. While beautiful, it was not my favorite look on her. She does well with a V neckline. This square neckline just didn’t work on her in my opinion. Loved the hair and makeup.
Anna Kendrick in a custom Thakoon. Loved this coral color on her. Also loved the hair and simple jewelry. To her stylist: “Nailed it!”
Next let’s talk about baby bump fashion for the evening. I have to say that Kiera Knightley looked way better in her Valentino then she did in the Golden Globes Chanel mistake. In this ode to spring floral she epitomizes the glow of impending motherhood. Etherial and delicate. Well done.
Next we have the fashion savvy newly bonded to Benedict Cumberbatch Sophie Hunter in Lanvin. Stunning couple and if looking good on the red carpet while pregnant were an Olympic sport, she would have the gold.
Lastly, let’s talk about the two new baby mamas that rocked their Versace’s.
Zoe Saldana. Oh my word! And this woman didn’t have just one baby, she had two!! This is what being a former ballet dancer can do for us. Holy cow! She looked stunning in this palest of pink hued Versace.
Scarlett Johansson in one of the best pops of color on the red carpet. Whoever talked her into the choker/necklace/piece of industrial hardware needs to rethink their grasp of appropriate accessories though. Overkill …total overkill.
I really didn’t have much to snark about this year at the Oscar’s so I am going to leave it there.
Wow!!! Today the Barbie Fan Club released a video of the 2015 Barbie Fashion Model Collection. Real life photos of 5 dolls are shown. For the past couple of years, I have shared an elaborately styled diorama photo in honor of the academy awards season. There was the “Getting Ready for the Oscars” post. Then there was the “Presenting at the Oscar’s” post. This year, I decided to go back to simple glamour and use the newest addition to the BFMC Silkstone Barbie line. She redresses incredibly well.
This is such a Hollywood glamour shot!
For those who wanted a better look at her hair, here you go.
The new tags have pink lettering instead of blue…nice touch.
Hair is slightly different than promo shots. The hair comes into a curl closer towards the face on the production doll. I advise that you be very, very careful when removing the hair net from the chignon on this one. While it is nice that the chignon is not glued into lacquer hardness, it does mean that it can be messed up fairly easily. I decided to just sacrifice the hairnet and cut it off little by little. I then applied some hairspray and gel to keep things in place. All in all, not too bad.
Does that hat come curled like this you ask?? Nope. Want to know how I did it?
Just curl it inside a toilet paper roll for a couple hours. You will need to switch it around from one side to the other a couple times so both sides curl evenly.
She is a beauty!! Well worth the $50 in my opinion. I can’t wait to redress and photograph this lady.
The news in the United States right now is reporting the amazing and record breaking snowfall amounts on the east coast. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we are dealing with typical winter weather…rain and gloom. So, for those dealing with less than desirable weather situations, I decided to go to the beach for a day. I seem to be having a bit of a “Poppy crush” going on with this new convention Poppy.
Yes…I was listening to Bobby Darin as I typed this
I posted earlier this week about how some collectors will go back and forth over whether or not to purchase a particular doll. Here is another one that I was on the fence about. She is from the 2014 Integrity toys Gloss Convention collection.
Dark Moon
Poppy Parker™ Dressed Doll
The 2014 Integrity Toys Convention: Gloss
Limited Edition of 500 Dolls
The promo pictures didn’t do it for me and the purple disco dress CERTAINLY wasn’t doing anything to recommend this doll to me. The disco theme is just not what I like to collect. Something about this doll spoke to me, however, and I am glad I purchased her. Here is why…

Obviously I was having some quality time with Photoshop on a few of these shots. I have to say that the facial screening on this Poppy is a bit more sophisticated than the norm for Miss Poppy. We saw this same palette on the Poppy’s that were introduced at IFDC this year. To be perfectly honest, I am not sure I am ready to say goodbye to the dewy eyed fresh faced Poppy quite yet. This harder, more polished Poppy does make for some dramatic photos though.
There is a new Barbie Collector designer in town… and his name is Carlyle Nuera. He knows how to make an entrance! His debut design for BC just had photos released yesterday and she is a beautiful homage to the rich culture of the Philippines.
Many collectors have face mold favorites. Many photographers have favorite models. For me as a collector and photographer, I can honestly say there are some dolls that seem to draw the lens and some that don’t. Great Pretender Lilith was and continues to be one of my favorite models. As collectors we also have those dolls that we go back and forth on as to whether we should purchase. I knew I loved the face on this doll. Her outfit was not my cup of tea though. I decided to go ahead and get her because I loved the soft makeup palette. I am so glad I made that purchase. I decided to put her hair up in a simple updo. She has such a regal high fashion look with the hair change. I adore it.
Hey folks. I hate to have to come out and explain this but I am finding it necessary so here goes.... All photos used on this site unless I specify they are from another source like Mattel or Integrity Toys...are mine and under my copyright. So....don't use them unless you have my permission.
