Reign of the Redheads

I have a special affinity for redheads.  I have always been drawn to the vibrant hair color and often, this hair hue is what I gravitate to when I want a model for a dramatic shot.  Red hair and freckles run in my family of origin and while I was not lucky enough to get the red hair ( the freckles…I did get) I was thrilled that my son was born with strawberry blond hair.  So…in honor of those redheads, I did this shoot.  The exquisite gowns are a recent acquisition from the talented Rimdoll on Etsy.

Models: (from left to right) 2016 Japan Barbie Convention doll, Black and White Tweed Suit Silkstone Barbie and 2016 Paris Fashion Doll Festival Barbie

Gowns: Rimdoll on Etsy

Still not a  fan of the articulated bodies on these silkstone Barbies.  It is very limited articulation and it irks me that you cant bend the hand at wrist joint to put it fully on the dolls hip.

Love this elegant Black and White Tweed Suit Silkstone’s facial screening though.

This vibrant red hair color is my absolute favorite…especially when it’s paired with a green eye.  Yummy!

And these gowns were so perfect in these fabulous pastel shades.  Adore.

I am feeling an Elie Saab vibe here…the picture below is from his 2017 Resort collection.  The fact that he used wedge shoes also with this look makes me think this was one of the inspirations for this look.

©2017 Vogue 41-elie-saab-resort-17

So…how do I feel about this reveal?  I love the facial screening!  Green eyes on a pale skinned raven Agnes…yummm!  Also kind of happy they went with the nude lip.  It feels very on trend for right now.  This also makes her infinitely more re-dressable.   I am thrilled that the jumpsuit isn’t black.  I think jewel tones definitely fit with the “Riviera” theme. I adore the jewelry!  What concerns me is the fabric shown.  I don’t know if it flows like the original design does.  It looks kind of stiff to me but then…that could just be the image and how the model is posed.  Also…what is with this purse?  Did they want to go for Christmas colors?  I don’t think I would have chosen red.  I may be in a minority here but I like the wedge shoes.  It’s more casual and we don’t have shoes like this so if I want to dress this outfit up, I can certainly find a pair of black strappy sandals in my IT box.  Also, I am hoping the hair isn’t too “crunchy” as in…stiff.  It looks like it might be though.  It does help with those annoying flyaways that I end up editing out in PS later anyway Winking smile

Mademoiselle Papillon Rouge

Giselle has been restyled as Miss Red Butterfly for today’s blog post.  I have been inspired by some beautiful images coming from Dior’s Spring Couture collection and the new captain at it’s helm Maria Grazia Chiuri (formerly of Valentino).  She had unicorn’s lining the walk into the collection venue!  Ok, Ok, they were not real unicorns but still….very whimsical.  She had a park like setting and I supposed that has helped influence the backdrop for this shoot as well.

Dress:  Rimdoll

Hat: Integrity Toys “Love The One” Kyori Sato ( I embellished with flower and butterfly)

Gloved hands:  Integrity Toys “Royal Treatment” Véronique giftset

A Spring Fling

Reluctant to tear down the set from the previous shoot, I decided to give Miss Tullabelle a chance to model.  I just had to show off this amazing head of delicious golden curls.  I also received this exquisite Matisse creation by Brenda Visaya and had to use it.  It’s funny because I took the photos of Tullabelle posing up against the white arbor I had created.  When I looked at the images in post processing…she just seemed too refined.  I wasn’t completely happy with them which was a complete shock for me because that is the look I normally go for when editing photos.  I woke up the next morning and did a few more shots showing a more flirtatious Tullabelle and in the end…these are the shots I am most happy with.  Go figure Winking smile

A Bridal Still Life

I am continually inspired by miniature couture.  In particular, I adore any and all images that come out of Le Petit Théâtre from Dior.

©2016 Dior, Inc.

©2016 Dior, Inc.

I love how they use real size items with miniatures.  I had a free day in the studio…almost unheard of these days…so I thought I would try my hand at something like this.  I decided to use my most recent bridal shoot as inspiration.  For those of you following my instagram story…you got to see a little taste of the shoot.  But…as most things go in the studio, you saw the prelim shots and not the final part of what I actually used in the processed images.

I have to give a shout out to my dear friend Rogier Corbeau of Dutch Fashion Doll World who did some additional art direction on this shoot.  Your vision is always valued and appreciated my friend.

For those of you interested in the set up for this shoot, it was all done in natural light with one reflector.  Be prepared people when using natural light to be waiting half the day for optimal lighting.  Since I always love to see behind the scenes from others, I will share a behind the scenes shot here of the set up.  Yes…I have a flash in the picture below but I didn’t end up using it.

A Spring Bride

I have been inspired by some of the free flowing fashions I have seen in the past week from Coachella so I decided to dress my new Giselle in a fashion I received this past week from Rimdoll.  I have also been wanting too use these adorable paper roses hued in yellow and pink.  I needed the right outfit to showcase them and this glorious gown from Rimdoll was just the thing.  It is all that and a bag of chips people!  Spring floral romantic with a little bit of edginess in there too.

Mode:  NuFace Aka Gigi Giselle

Gown: Rimdoll on Etsy

floral crown and bouquet: Made by me of flowers found on Ebay

Earrings: Mattel

Garden Bench: Found it at Michael’s about 3 years ago.

I absolutely LOVE the facial screening on this Giselle.  Very soft and romantic.

A Little Glamour

Or a lot of glamour depending on your definition.  I received a treasure trove of new outfits from the talented designer Hoang Anh Khoi on Etsy.  I showcased one of them in a recent blog post with NuFace Totally Betty Ayumi.  Today, a favorite FR2 Elise is wearing the fashion.  The day before yesterday, I gave a sneak peak of my mood board for this shoot.

The Millennial Chanel

Many fashion collections are targeting the rich pocket of the Millennial generation right now.  I was interested in styling one of the most recent NuFace girls to embody that plus stay true to the original theme of IT and Jessy Ayala’s Reckless collection…the movie “Clueless”.  It all started with this fabulous jacket from the Etsy shop ElenPriv.  It continued with the amazing necklace from Etsy shop IsabelleParisJewels.  The rest just came into place after that.

A Class Act

After a week of driving 20 hours down to Anaheim California and then doing the drive back…in a 26 foot truck full of luggage and orchestra instruments…I am ready for some play time.  Lesson learned in the past week?  Don’t ever underestimate Mother Nature in the mountains.  You may think it’s too late to snow…but you would be wrong.  I know we were. Winking smile

Before I left on the big journey, I had an opportunity to photograph something yummy and I am anxious to share.  Given that IT is giving us 1950’s glamour in a few short months, I anticipated just a bit with this one.  Hope you enjoy!

Meet You at East 59th!

Wow!!  Wow, Wow, Wow is all I can say of Integrity Toys newest product line.  For those of us who have been waiting for the return of our beloved Victoire Roux…the waiting just got a little sweeter.  While we did not get a new Victoire, we did receive some of her friends and this new world that IT has created looks to be amazing!  The director of this yumminess is the uber talented Chris Stoeckel.  While we did not get Victoire in this new release, we did get word that she is coming.  {That sound in the background is Rebecca squealing with happiness}.  The story behind this line is 1950’s Hollywood and a possible feud between competing divas..I’m thinking Joan Crawford/Betty Davis.  With all that drama, you need killer fashions and who better to do that than Chris.  We have loved his 1950s inspired couture in the Victoires of the past.  It looks like his future designs will take us to a whole other level.  Soooooo excited!

{FAINT!!!}  Oh…my…word.  I am traveling as I write this blog post and I was sitting at a restaurant yesterday morning when these pictures came into the WClub members inboxes.  I am absolutely sure I embarassed myself when I squealed with delight on this one.  Where to start with the love…..hmmmm.  Ok, first is the color combinations.  Adore this red and black with the raven hair.  New face sculpt on these characters and I love them.  I don’t advocate smoking ( Constance..you need to rethink that one) but the props are so appropriate for the 1950’s.  It’s the attention to detail and the playability that I love the most I think.  Chris has given us two separate looks on every doll.  Bonus!!!  Love it!!!

{FAINT…AGAIN}.  Chris, next time give us collectors some warning before you unleash this kind of gorgeousness on us  My heart cant take it Winking smile

A redhead in electric blue!  Adore.  Love, love, love the silhouette on the gown.  Also love the embroidered pants look.  the accessories are spot on…except…for the plastic shoes.  Nope…no at this pricepoint people  I am hoping IT rethinks this one.  I and many collectors concur…this is a misplaced note in the middle of a beautiful symphony.  Apparently Evelyn likes the makeup because she comes with a full set.  Adorable!  Head to ankle gorgeous…plastic shoes need an upgrade.

{Rebecca now has a concussion from fainting}

OK, so this might be my favorite.  The two separate looks are to die for..evening to day perfection.  The accessories are spot on.  I adore the floral headpiece.  The plastic shoes have to go but everything else is a huge thumbs up.  Also adore the facial screening on her.

{Rebecca is now on her way to hospital…too many faints and now has concussion}

Cocktails indeed!  I know I will need a few after this collection to lament my poor, poor wallet.  I have a think for well tailored suits.  This one is perfection  I love both sets of gloves with these looks  The driving gloves in particular!  Simple jewelry is perfect here as the suit s the star.  The shoes..oh why oh why with the plastic.  I’m sound like a broken record…I know.  The facial screening on her is my least favorite of this collection but not a deal breaker.  I’m still buying.

The big questions from me and many collectors is…what is the body on this lady?  Is it FR2, Victoire…enquiring minds want to know.  I am sure we will get answers soon.  At the time this goes to print there will be a live chat with the designer Chris Stoeckel.  I am sure he will give us this info.

I hate the write and run but I am on he road driving a bunch of orchestra instruments and luggage back from L.A.  Will hopefully have more information to share with you tomorrow.

If you want to purchase these beauties find your local Integrity Toys Authorized Dealer  I would run not walk as many of these have already sold out to WClub members.

A Romantic Era Concludes

All good things must come to an end.  Or…in my case…all sunny days in the garden eventually give way to rain.  I managed to get three separate photo shoots completed before the rain started so I am happy with that.  For the last installment of this romantic garden series I paired a favorite embroidered sheath from Bellissima Couture and a yummier than yummy coat from Lovetones.  The hat is a story.  It originally came from Bogue’s Vogues and I have to admit…I got creative with the Russian netting on this one.  Hope you all enjoy.

A Romantic Era Begins

As we turn the corner into spring, I am in the mood for soft hazy imagery, pastels and florals.   A sunny day in the garden ( an absolute surprise in the Pacific Northwest in spring) led me to bring out a new  line of 1/6 fashion dolls I have been intrigued by since their debut.

First Silkstone of 2017 Coming Soon

It looks like these images are up on the Barbie Collection website so I will share them here too.  The first Silkstone of 2017 will be available tomorrow!!  While I am not a fan of this articulated body, I still love the look of this first offering.

I find it very interesting that these images are available but no news on the Barbie Fan Club for 2017 is up and available yet.  Word is 03/31/2017.  Let’s just say, I will believe it when I see it.  In the mean time, there are images and a price point for this silkstone to mull over.

Love the redhead!  Love the suit and Hermes inspired Kelly bag.  The hat…hmmmm…will have to see.  Happy that this lady has earrings!  I have to be honest…I am shocked we don’t have any new information on the BFC yet…just some vague information that it would be coming out by 03/31/2017.  I will be adding this beauty to my collection, club or no club.

Ayumi is a Total Betty

The actual name for this doll is Totally Betty Ayumi.  If you have never watched the movie Clueless you may have missed the meaning of the reference.  Per the Online Slang Dictionary, the definition of Betty is

noun
  • an attractive female; "hottie".

Oddly enough, the citation for this definition is the movie Clueless.   Well..whether or not the movie coined this term and it’s meaning, this Ayumi is definitely a stunner.  The outfit she came in was perfect for the urban and hip look.  My collection runs more towards the elegant and sophisticated so I wanted to transform this current Ayumi with an outfit I had recently received.  I suspected she would fit into “elegant and sophisticated” without a problem….and I was right.  This also gave me a chance to use one of the amazing screens I recently picked up on Etsy.

I absolutely adore the soft facial screening on her!!  A number of collectors have said she bears a striking resemblance to Chrissy Teigan.  I can totally see that!

Sparkle Poppy Sparkle!

And sparkle she does!  I realized I had not given any love to this particular convention Poppy for well over a year.  Not good.  She was part of the 2015 IT convention collection.  Here she is in her original outfit and jewelry.  She is however, sporting a new set of hands that were a recent find on Ebay.

Check out the teeny, tiny acrylic nails!!  I found them on Ebay.  Don’t know if this vendor offers them up regularly or if they were just a short term thing but this is where I got them.

Recklessness in the Studio!

I received the lovely dolls I ordered from the “Reckless” collection from my fabulous Integrity Toy’s dealer  this past week and I have to say…I am not disappointed at all.  The facial screenings are delightful and the fashions and accessories exceed expectations on most levels.  My only complaint is that the choker necklaces on both Ayumi and Erin needed to have adjustments.  On mine at least the choker was too tight a fit and I ended up adding another bigger jump ring so it would close around the neck.  I know some people are just popping the heads off and putting the necklace on but that seemed like too much work to me given how often I redress these models…so the jump ring was a good solution for me.

The braids were a surprise to me and apparently a lot of other collectors.  They didn’t show these in the promo shots so I made sure to showcase them in these pictures.  Definitely a Moschino influence with the burned edge bow.

Jessy Ayala did a marvelous job with the modern day “Clueless” inspired collection.  It’s young, its hip, it’s edgy and it also manages to be fun.  I am looking forward to photographing different looks.

I also ordered the Erin but did not get individual shots of her so I went ahead and did a group shot of the girls I did order.  I will be adding Lilith and hope upon all hope that I can add the Eden to.  Please shine down on me oh Lottery Gods.

After the excitement of the mornings design challenge, festival attendees had lunch on their own and an afternoon to shop some more in the sales room or have some well deserved free time.  We were all anticipating the final evening event of the festival – The Diamond Jubilee diner featuring a tribute to Ninimomo.  The super talented Ninimomo team of Nik Moronese  and Marie Lebreton shared a fun video of their design process and a tribute to their loyal fans.

There were some fabulous table centerpieces!

And they were all slightly different….same outfit but different dolls for each.  I thought that was really inventive and cool.

After a fantastic diner, it was time to unveil the Ninimomo convention doll.  Each attendee received this one too.  Yes people!!  TWO official dolls for this festival.

OOAK Doll Festival–Friday Dinner

After the sales room frenzy of Friday afternoon, many attendees headed to Mood Fabric in the garment district and if they had time, stopped off at M&J Trimming.  I did not attend that outing but many did and had a marvelous time.

The evening event was the Platinum Party Dinner where we all paid tribute to the amazing and creative talents of Gianni Grossi and Mario Paglino who make up the stellar team of Magia 2000.  Here they are with Rocky Schmidt the fabulous organizer of this truly one of a kind festival.

There was a table centerpiece…which all of us wanted but only 10 lucky ducks won.  Yours truly and her blogging cohort Rogier…were not lucky ducks this evening Sad smile

There was also a collection of Magia 2000 creations that were brought and shared by various attendees.  It was such a treat to see so many beautiful creations from Magia 2000 past collections.  Wish I had time to photograph all of them in the studio!

Once you stopped salivating over the Magia’s…it was time to vote on your favorite “unconventional material” OOAK dolls.  Each attendee was given a ticket to vote on their favorite Magia and their favorite unconventional material doll.

There were many creative entries for unconventional materials.  In the end…Rogier was 2nd runner up for his masterful concoction.  The winner of the competition was an adorable whimsical design and excellent use of pastel confetti material!

After a lovely dinner, it was time to unveil the Magia 2000 official convention doll.  Each attendee received one!  She was an instant favorite.  Her name is Manhattan Premiere.

Rocky received a OOAK version of this beauty.  A beautiful OOAK lady for a gentleman that put so much time and effort into making this festival happen.  You deserve this and so much more for all your work Rocky.  We love you!!©2017 Jenny Kim OOAK Doll Festival

2017 WClub Registration Begins!!

©2017 Integrity Toys, Inc

While some other clubs {cough…BFC…cough} have deferred  their opening, Integrity Toys has just announced open enrollment for their 2017 WClub.  Integrity Toys never fails to pull out the goodies for their WClub and this year is no exception.

So…this year Integrity Toys and the WClub did things a little differently.  They basically polled the 2016 WClub members to see what face mold, skin tone and hair color combination they would like to see in a club upgrade doll.  They gave members a little over 2 weeks to vote and here are the results.

It would appear that the majority of members voted for a cream skin toned, raven haired Agnes.  This was actually my vote so I’m kind of stoked to see the actual product.  I have to admit…I am a little nervous about ordering a doll that I have only seen a sketch of but it is what I voted for so I’m in.

As David Buttry told us at the last IT convention, Poppy is headed to London in the 60’s.  This lady certainly embodies that!  I love that she has this lovely brown hair.  While the 60’s are not a time period that I like to collect fashion wise, I can still appreciate the design and aesthetics of this Poppy.  Love her white gloved hands and jaunty hat.  Thumbs up David!

Oh…my…Word!!!  You had me at the Fabergé egg purse people!!!  Don’t even get me started on the shoes.  Modern day spats is what I am seeing…and me likes.  I love this look.  It is feminine and modern at the same time.  I love that the Integrity team has found fabrics and trims that fit in so beautifully in this scale.

But wait there is more!!!

If you order all three upgrade dolls, the WClub is throwing in a bonus.  Dioramas people…Dioramas!!

Happy Holidays from ITFDS

Sorry for the obscenely long break between posts.  I realized I have not posted since IT convention in October and my only excuse is that life hit hyper drive since then.  I had WAY too many projects come up at once.  I need to do a big shout out to Rogier Corbeau of The Dutch Fashion Doll World who graciously and beautifully handled the blog during the Integrity Toys convention.  You rock!!  I could not have left ITFDS in better hands during convention.

Back in July, I began some holiday shoots that I had planned to make into holiday cards.  Great idea but not enough time to turn it into reality.  Oh well, there is always next year right?   Since I don’t have time to send these, I thought I would just put it on the blog as one big digital holiday card to everyone.  I am so very grateful to all my readers for your support.  It means the world to me.  I hope to continue my photography series in the year ahead and I am looking forward to bringing more consistent content to the blog.  I hope this post finds you all happy, healthy and in anticipation of some really great dolls under your tree or in your stocking.

Oh so Chanel

For those of you who follow me on FB and Instagram, you received a little sneak peek of today’s post this past weekend.

©2016 Inside The Fashion Doll Studio - Oh So Chanel!

Tomorrow, I am flying to Chicago for the 2016 Integrity Toys Convention.  Hilda Westervelt of Bellissima Couture and I will be having an event on Wednesday evening to sell fabulous OOAK clothing creations by Hilda and a variety of 1/6 items made by me and my fellow blogger Rogier Corbeau of Dutch Fashion Doll World.  For place and time, check the boards at convention.  We will be placing signage as soon as we have a room number.  We will also be at the sales bazaar on Friday evening.

Here is a small sample of some of the Chanel inspired yumminess that Hilda will have available for convention attendees.

It’s Party Time

Everyone in the fashion world has their eyes turned toward Paris right now for the culmination of the 2017 Spring Summer Ready to Wear shows and I thought, “what does one do at the end of fashion week?”.  If it were me, I would want to celebrate so that is the inspiration behind this group of photos.  Well…that and a killer sparkle dress from Rimdoll.

Here is the mood board I posted on Instagram.

Dress:  Rimdoll on Etsy

Shoes:  Integrity Toys Cold shoulder Eugenia

Earrings:  Integrity Toys Fabulous Fields Luchia

Glassware:  Facets by Marcia

Fur Wrap:  Pottery Barn wine bottle adornment ( yes!!  seriously!!  I know right?!)

Champagne bottle:  origins of which are lost in the quagmire of my mind….

There was another item besides the gown that I was inspired by.  Those of us who attended last years Integrity Toys convention were a bit hmmmm…lets just say underwhelmed by the convention doll last year.  Her name was ‘Making an Entrance’ Karolin Stone and she was a severe looking lady with a major broad forehead.  Not the most attractive look in my opinion.

©2015 Integrity Toys, Inc.

I really liked her facial screening but I was all ready to sell this one when I saw an image of a restyled Karolin on Rimdoll’s Etsy site.  I decided to change course and see if I could soften her look a bit.  Here is what I ended up with and I have to say…I am very happy Winking smile

She still has the wide forehead but at least it’s softened up by the roll of bangs.
