2016 NBDCC–Final Thoughts and Thanks

What does the trip home from Barbiecon look like?

I kid you not.  This was on my luggage when I picked it up from baggage claim.  LOL!  That about says it all people.  I flew into the wrong airport, I drove to Jacksonville, I laughed, I cried, I presented,  I shopped, I laughed some more then with a heart full of good memories I said goodbye to my Barbie buddies and headed home.  On the plane ride home I found myself looking forward to next year already.  A big hug and Thank you! to the fabulous table #4 and a most excellent hostess Susan.

I want to thank my dear friend and fellow blogger Rogier Corbeau of Dutch Barbie World for taking over the blogging duties on ITFDS.  He did a most fantastic job keeping both blogs up to date and getting all the images and information out to all of you.  Words alone cannot express my gratitude for his kindness and generosity in doing this.  I have to also give a big “Thank You!!” to Mario and Gianni of Magia2000.  They generously allowed me to photograph behind the scenes before the event which then allowed me to share images of all of their collection in a way I never would have been able to do fighting the crowds during their show.  Grazie!  I also received an extra bonus in that I got to hear some of what went into designing this collection.  I was amazed before but now, having heard about all that goes into these exquisite creations, I am in awe.  What an honor to photograph those beauties.

This year, since I had opportunities that came up during the convention, I was prompted  to take some of my professional camera gear.  It was a lot to lug around but boy am I glad I did.  I was very happy with the images I was able to get this convention.  Looks like extra camera gear will be coming with me now for doll conventions.

I was honored to be asked to do a presentation on photography and blogging this year and since some people were not able to make it, I will be doing most of the presentation in pieces on the blog.  The first installment will be this Friday and will follow for subsequent Friday’s through August and into September.   If you missed it or were unable to attend, no worries.  It will all be here.

Salesroom

So this will be my last guest blog for now. I want to thank Rebecca for sending me all her great pictures. And it was an honor to take over your blog this week. As a last topic we have salesroom pictures. The salesroom at the National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention is probably the largest barbie salesroom in the world.

information about this doll from TheBarbieCollection.com:

This timeless teenager first captured America’s hearts in 1966 with a youthful, kicky style that embodied the hip looks of London’s Carnaby Street and the booming mod movement in the States. “She was where pop culture was heading,” designer Bill Greening says, “as reflected in the teenage fashion trends of the mid to late ’60s.”

Fifty years later, Francie® doll continues to delight collectors and win new fans because, as Greening explains, “She has a personality all her own and a style that can be sweet and girly or mod and wild.”

To mark her golden anniversary, Greening and his team have recreated Francie Fairchild’s crowning achievement from 1967 as Miss Teenage Beauty, a look that’s highly coveted by collectors. “It’s so hard to find a vintage sample, mint and complete,” Greening says. “The fashion feels very celebratory and appropriate to commemorate Francie’s 50th.”

Francie® doll is poised to take the pageant prize in her pink ruffled A-line skirt paired with a sleeveless lace top adorned with floral appliqués. She earns extra applause for her marvey accessories, including elbow-length gloves, pale-blue pumps, red beauty sash, and loving cup. Plus, she tops off her winning look with a tiara and signature flip hairdo — the perfect complement to the sweet expression on her face.

Please to be part of this anniversary tribute, Greening points out other distinctive features of the faithful reproduction. “This is the first time we’ve reproduced what collectors call the ‘straight leg’ Francie doll, which debuted in 1966 along with the bendable leg version. She looks really cute both in the box or removed, and her doll stand even has the vintage Francie logo.”

Great for play or display, 50th Anniversary Francie® Doll is a neato way to honor this treasured teen’s lasting appeal, and you’ll dig adding her to your collection — with just a click at our online shop beginning Wednesday, 8/3/16 at 9am PT!

Enjoy a blast from the past and watch these two vintage Francie commercials from our archives!

Congrataiolations Sebastiano !!!

Fashion Show

One of my favorite parts of convention is the fashion show. And they had a really good one this year in Jacksonville. The people in the fashion show always have so much fun and the conventioneers love it.

This years it was the first time that Mattel designer Carlyle Nuera saw one of his designs one stage. And as you can see he is loving it.

An other favorite of my was Alexis and Krystal (Mario and Sebastiano) from Dynasty. And of course they had one of their Iconic fights on stage.

On Wednesday evening they had the first official convention event. It was the Groovy Gallery Opening reception where they had the silence auction.

And wow, there were so many great items this year in that auction.

During the event there was an artist live painting a barbie portrait.

And I’m very curious about the donation by Robert Best.
