  4. Hi Rebecca- the photos of this Poppy are gorgeous! I missed out on India but snagged Joyful in Japan and Spicey in Spain. I wanted to thank you because I too- decided to take photos of my dolls this time – in the window! and was simply amazed at the level of photo quality!!!! Thank you so much for that advice! Lisa

    • Thank you so much Lisa. Joyful is beautiful isn’t she?! I have photo plans for her as well…when time permits. I am so glad you are happy with the “window” tip. Getting the right amount of light for your camera speed gets you a sharper crisper image. All those pixels are very happy when they have enough light. 🙂 Happy shooting!

Lisa, Can I see your window pics? I am an apprentice picture taker. Almost afraid to pick up a camera with girls like Rebecca, Shug and Sharon Wright, but they all started somewhere, right! I’m excited to learn.

      • Yes Lisa!! Let’s see those pics. 🙂 And Tiffany…we all started exactly where you are. Every journey starts with one step….Now I sound like Yoda LOL!

ooh , I love this more than the last. This color really compliments her skin tone. Now I want to buy this Barbie ensemble. You stinkers, with your artistic abilities, you always make me want more!

    • 🙂 Yes, we are all enablers. Thank you Tiffany! Glad you liked the photos.

oooh yes, just another thing that makes doll collectors superior! With alcohol and drugs, you have to have two meetings, one for the addicts and one for the enablers. We only need one, lol! And instead of trying to quit we encourage each other and have fun doing it! Thanks for the reminder of how much we ROCK!

    Rebecca,
Can I ask you something too? My questions may be very rudimentary. Please realize, I know NOTHING! I got a Cannon Rebel last Christmas and have no idea how to use it? Looks like back to college (community) for me! I was hoping to enroll this summer, but my kiddos keep me so busy, I will have to see? I have an Apple, so that may make a difference, but is there any photo software you recommend? Hopefully something less than 500 bucks? My son teased me yesterday, because I wouldn’t spend $1000.00 on a Tiffany purse, but he said, “you will spend $800.00 on a doll and Tiffany is your name”? He doesn’t get that mommy can’t justify $1000.00 at Tiffany & Co. Only a gift from daddy, would make that OK. But mommy can always justify dolls. Oh how I can, let me count the ways! OK, here is dumbest question. How do you get watermark ITFDS on pics?

    • Hi Tiffany,

You can ask away. I am happy to answer questions as best I can. I started exactly where you are…with a Canon, a user guide and no previous experience. The Rebel, in my opinion, is an excellent DSLR camera. I wish I had something that nice to start off with. I hear you about the kiddos and keeping you busy. I have two of those too and while they are older now..they still keep me busy 🙂 Starting out, I would recommend Photoshop Elements 11. It is around $70.00 on Amazon for PC or Mac. It is not the full version of Photoshop but frankly..I do everything I need to do in Elements and not the full version of Photoshop. It has some good photo editing features. If you can work the time in to do a course, I would recommend learning Photoshop elements. It is not the most intuitive program I have ever used and I was lucky that I had someone who could sit down and explain it to me step by step. It was incredibly frustrating in the beginning to learn so don’t get discouraged if you try it out. As my photography business has grown, I now process most things in Adobe Lightroom but I still use Photoshop Elements for things too.

There is no such thing as a dumb question so please feel free to ask it. Asking about watermarking is an excellent question and I bet at least a few other readers are wondering about this as well. The watermark is a graphic(Thank you Matty!!) I add to all of the photos that I post and I do that in Photoshop elements as an added layer to finished photos. There are other easier ways to do it by simply adding text to your photos using any photo editor software you have or can use for free on the internet. I post with a watermark to discourage people from using the photos for other purposes…like selling stuff on Ebay or making cards and calendars to sell on Etsy. I also make sure that I don’t post any finished image larger than 600×800 pixels. That way people can’t make prints off of the image or use it in a magazine without my permission ( yes…it’s happened)

Hope this helps answer some questions. 🙂

Thank you. Man I can’t believe how nice everyone is in this community. Everyone welcomes with open arms. I love your photos and I think the watermark adds a professional edge. I am glad it protects you too! I probably wont add a watermark until I improve some, haha. It will be fun to watch my journey in pics, as I improve and I feel having you guys to advise will help a lot! I have always loved dolls and didn’t even realize there were so many adults like me. It has been my greatest discovery this year, like hitting a jackpot. Thank you guys, I think this is the beginning of some beautiful friendships. I’m a lucky girl~
