Barbie for big girls.

BFMC Cocktail Dress

Finally photos have been released to retailers so I can share them here.  Remember back in August, I obsessed about the Mattel Atelier Video and posted a still from the video that I and pretty much everyone else felt was sure to be one of the releases for 2013.  https://insidethefashiondollstudio.com/2012/08/23/the-bfmc-2013-atelier-collection-a-peak-into-next-year/

2013 Atelier Sneak Peak 1

And….here she is….a beautiful platinum blonde with blue eyes.  Retailers are showing price at approximately $90.00 and delivery around April of 2013.  Take this information with a grain of salt folks.  Mattel may up and decide this one will be the Barbie Fan Club membership doll and therefor only available to BFC members. She is feeling like a club doll to me but I may be wrong.  We will know more when Mattel announces information about the 2013 Barbie Fan Club in February.

I also reported back in September that Robert Best had stated a “platinum” Silkstone was in the works for 2013 (https://insidethefashiondollstudio.com/2012/09/21/new-silkstone-info-for-2013/).  And…here she is.  It would appear he meant platinum HAIRED not EDITION.  Thanks for the word play Robert !  I think he just wanted to see us all frothing at the mouth at the idea of a platinum edition( no more than 1,000 produced) Silkstone.  To be completely honest, I am thrilled there won’t be a platinum edition Silkstone.  It means I don’t have to get into the mud pit to get one…fun as it would have been { Rebecca’s arched eyebrow is raised with extreme sarcasm}.  I could not be happier with this platinum haired lovely.  She is on my “must buy” list.

And since I think this might be the 2013 BFC doll, and last year we received a silkstone mannequin with our membership

…I think it would be perfect if we could receive a set of these chairs with our BFC membership….

Or a chair like this in 1/6 scale….

  1. Love love love everything about her, perfection, this is the money doll for sure. I also agree on the chair thingy, sadly for us Canadians, it is hard to joing this club as shipping is outrageous, I haven’t been a member for a few years now we have lost Maddies and MFD the dealers.
The blue chairs leave me giddy, so close to a Tiffany blue, I am still trying to win one on ebay that is similar, your collection has amazing ones and Mary in NY has some drool worthy ones as well.
A great start to my day!!! thanks

    • I knew you were with me on the chairs Brenda 🙂 Isn’t this silkie divine!! One of these days someone is going to make those chiavari chairs in 1/6 scale.

    • I am in complete agreement. This one can’t be produced quick enough for me 🙂 Oh and I went to visit your blog. LOVE IT! I especially love the header you designed. You are very creative and talented.

  3. Oh wow. I’m slightly tempted at times to purchase a silk stone but never actually go there but this platinum haired one may be my one and only purchase! Holy cow she’s utter perfection in my eyes and she’s glam enough to stand alone amongst my IT dolls. I think she’s definitely a keeper. Can I ask how it works to purchase? Is it usually you pay and she ships later? Or do you pay when she actually is ready to ship? Thanks!

    • Oh yes….welcome to the dark/Silkstone side Shuga! I am so excited about this one and I definitely think she can hold her own amongst your IT diva crowd. It works much like IT dolls. If she is not the BFC membership doll ( and that has not been confirmed yet), you can get her through Barbiecollector.com or any dealer. I generally buy through Claudia at Pink Ponytail or Barb at Windy City Dolls. If she is in fact the BFC membership doll, you would have to buy a membership ( generally $25) to be able to purchase this one. Or you can just work a deal with someone who is a member but doesn’t want to buy the doll. I am sure you know some members 🙂

      • Awesome thanks! Do you find it easier to order through a dealer than on Site? And do dealers put her up for sale at the same day/time? Thanks again for your help!

  4. To Shuga because wordress won’t let me reply to your reply ( note to wordpress IT staff…why???): Lately, things have been available to dealers first, then available on Barbiecollector.com. I generally like going through a dealer because I like to support them and what they do for the collecting community. It is just as easy, however, to go through the Mattel website and they do offer discounts and free shipping from time to time.

      Thanks!

  5. Rebecca – I don’t think she’s going to be a BFC membership doll since Mattel has notified their dealers that it is part of the 2013 line!! YEAH!! Glad it’s not a platinum edition doll – I think this one is going to be quite popular!

I don’t collect Barbies anymore, but this doll is STUNNING. I may decide to purchase her. I do have one Silktone doll.

    • You can never have just one Silkstone….;-) If you only have a few Demetria, this is definitely one to consider getting.

  7. Hello from Spain: I love the cocktail dress. Very cool. Hopefully Mattel sold chairs and elegant furnishings. We keep in touch.

    January 17, 2013 at 1:34 pm

    • I agree Marta! I so wish Mattel would produce some BFMC inspired furnishings like the vanity set they did. Maybe one day….

  8. Madame L

You are such a Silkie enabler, Rebecca ;)! I adore this platinum lady, she and her fashion are truly divine. I think I’m going to order her. I mean, it really wouldn’t be fair to leave Gala Gown as the stand-alone in my collection, right…it’s not because I’m really becoming Silkstone collector, no, surely not…I have willpower…

    January 20, 2013 at 1:21 pm

    • Oh no…you should never leave Ms. Gala Gown to suffer all there by herself…she would be horribly lonely ( cough, cough “enabler” cough, cough). Of course you are not a Silkstone collector….no…you are simply displaying without commitment….yeah….displaying without commitment.

  9. Soooo lovely, she looks like a young Grace Kelly… is not it a Grace Kelly moment with a movie coming soon, and all those lovely dolls from Mattel celbrating 50’s elegance ?
On day, I could well going on collecting silkstones again…

    January 25, 2013 at 1:42 am

    • Yes, you should collect Silkstones again! If only to grace us with your lovely photos of them 🙂 I had not thought about the connection with the new Grace Kelly film coming out too. Very interesting. Yes, this particular Silkstone definitely has a Grace Kelly feel.
