Classic Cocktail Dress Arrives
My trusted dealer Barb of Windy City Dolls sent one of these lovelies out as soon as she received them. She isn’t even up on the BC website yet. It looks like she will retail for $100.00
So what am I thinking?? Hmmmm. Well, I like the gown and the little pearl embellishments are delightful. Her face is sweet and I like the silvery lilac eye shadow. The lashes seem a bit spikey to me but not a huge problem. I love the little pearl drop earrings. The hair on mine was a bit of a fixer upper. The curls on top are soft so when you remove the hairnet, you will get some flyaway hair. Not super crisp curls but not a deal breaker in my opinion.
The dress is a strapless gown with a little crop top overlay that snaps in the back. She comes with a white slip underneath too. Considering the quality of some of the other outfits we have seen from BFMC lately, this one is pretty good. I mean we get earrings, pantyhose, a slip and a fairly well constructed dress. It’s up to you as collectors to decide if that is worth the price. I have to be honest and say, I am not a fan of this new body. The flexibility ( or lack thereof) in the wrist joint is a major problem. I do, however, love the elegant pose of the hand. I just wish it bent so I could comfortably put her hand on her waist. My other issue with this doll are the very flimsy shoes. The heal is very pliable so it bends under the weight of the doll when she is on her stand.
Is Miss Classic Cocktail Dress a keeper at ITFDS? Time will tell. I am anxious to see how she redresses then I will make my final decision.

I love her blue eyes and the dress is very nice. I will wait to see what bfc has her at.

Looks like she is at $100.00 😉 It will be up to each consumer whether or not she is worth it.

Such a lovely face. Congrats on scoring one! It’s nice to see that the top is removable. I mean I like the top, but I’m just not too sure of the cut yet. A big disappointment about the shoes though. I wasn’t too keen on the style and this doesn’t endear me to them either.
I can’t wait to see your redressing efforts for this lady 😉

Thank you Pamt! I am trying to find the perfect outfit to redress her in. Will post on the blog when I do 😉

Love your pics, like the dress, but the dolls are just ugly to me now.

Glad you like the photos Jen. This is definitely a new look and feel for the Silkstones.

There’s no doll I love more then silkstone but it so hard to like these last few Ive seen ,there bodies evolved which isn’t done very well,an there fashion an face sculpt just is lacking inspiration. In my opinion I think the Matel silkstone Barbie team needs to be refreshed.

😉 You and many other Silkstone collectors would agree Len. I don’t know if it’s budget constraints or just lack of leadership or creativity but something needs to change for sure. Otherwise…those collector dollars will go elsewhere.

Yes! The dress is what really sold this one for me.

She is very pretty, love her hair and may have to consider getting this one!

I need to dress her in one of your creations and photograph. I bet she would look even better 😉

The previous two are a let down to me but I’m inclined to like this one. She has the classy feel of the older silkies. Anyhow does the floral details all the way to the back?

Yes, the floral detail goes all the way around to the back..but…the pearl detailing is only on the front. That is a good thing to point out. Thanks for asking the question.

This Barbie has a beautiful face and great hair. Liking the new articulated body, as she can fit into the Model Muse and playline clothing as well. Still wished the arms were a bit more sculptural (like her neck). Shoes can be switched out, so not a deal-breaker there. On the basic Classic Dress, the right arm does not hold its pose well, as it seems a bit loose. Left, I can get the hand on the hip, but it was trial and error to get there. On the fence on this one. Always loved the sophistication of the Silkstone clothes. Maybe a pic of her without the overlay top?

Good suggestion on the dress without overlap top…will try and post on either Instagram or Flickr. I hear you about the ability to pose or rather…the limited ability to pose. I think the limited range on the hands is what bothers me the most about this body. Like you, I see the benefits of this new body but not sure if it outweighs what I hate about it yet either. I am most definitely on the fence.

Thanks for the answer! I was wondering since the dress reminded me of the Principessa. I recall the Principessa is only on the front part.
